Meet Our Board Of Directors

Sandgate Women’s Shelter of York Region is lead by a dedicated and experienced team of volunteer Board of Directors from the community who are committed to supporting quality service delivery in a feminist, women-centered organization.


Michelle Lloyd

Chair/President

Dr. Michelle Lloyd was elected Chair of the Sandgate Board of Directors in 2023 combining her personal and professional experience with her passion to support women and children who have experienced violence. Michelle is inspired to contribute to Sandgate’s vision of a world free of oppression and violence for all women and children. Michelle has over twenty years experience in governance and strategy development, and has held several leadership roles in public health and safety. Michelle holds a MSc from Queen’s University and a PhD from the University of Toronto.

Teodora Soare

Vice Chair

Teodora is a Privacy Officer and Senior Manager of Corporate Regulatory Compliance within the Ontario Public Sector. Her work experience in both the public and private sector together with her Master’s education in Public Policy and Law have allowed her to build extensive expertise in the areas of privacy, risk, regulatory compliance, project management and organizational governance. Teodora also brings over 20 years of experience volunteering with various communities in the GTA and chairing several boards.

Ana-Maria Pivato

Treasurer

Ana-Maria is a Payroll Leadership Professional certified by the National Payroll Institute of Canada who had a long career in accounting and payroll management in several industries. Ana-Maria is very passionate about helping women and children in need of shelter and safety, family reunifications, women empowerment, refugees and newcomer immigrants and other charity work.

Johanne Miceli

Secretary

Johanne Miceli is excited to be serving the Sandgate Women’s Shelter and its stakeholders as a member of the Board. She is a mother of 3 children with a passion to support those who have experienced domestic violence and the frontline teams that work to help women and children recover & rebuild. With a professional background in communications, governance and advocacy, Johanne is looking forward to contributing to Sandgate’s vision for “A world free of oppression and violence for all women and children”.

Angelica Milu

Angie is an experienced strategic leader, passionate and dedicated to empowering women in need. With over 20 years experience managing operations, including over a decade of entrepreneurial experience, she brings a unique perspective and a wealth of knowledge to our nonprofit women’s shelter organization. With a positive and impactful mindset, she is ready to make a lasting difference in the community.

Jeannine Rosenberg

Jeannine Rosenberg has been a supporter in one capacity or another of Sandgate Women’s Shelter for a number of years. Following a career in the Canadian Publishing industry she hopes to bring some of her marketing and publicity skills to the board in order to help broaden and strengthen Sandgate’s profile with the public, stakeholders and supporters.

Zainab Zaidi

With over 15 years of dedication to the marketing field, Zainab has significantly contributed through thoughtful leadership and innovative marketing strategies. Her career highlights include launching impactful products and initiating high-profile brand campaigns, which have brought fresh perspectives to the industry.

Committed to community service, Zainab collaborates closely with several boards, using her skills to foster community-driven projects. Her recent work includes a successful partnership with a well-regarded non-profit organization in York Region, where she focused on mentoring and volunteering, underscoring her commitment to philanthropy. Zainab serves as an advisor to multiple organizations and as a faculty member in marketing departments at various colleges, motivated by a deep commitment to community service.
