We are writing jointly to share That Sandgate Women’s Shelter of York Region Inc and OPSEU/SEPFO Local 310 have reached an agreement.
We recognize this has been a difficult period for everyone involved. The return to work ahead of us is not simply a resumption of duties. It is a process of reconciliation, one that calls on strength, professionalism, and resilience. Both Sandgate and OPSEU are committed to supporting employees through this transition, and to ensuring that the workplace we rebuild together is one of respect, stability, and shared purpose.

Violence Against Women Shelters Face Unprecedented COVID-19 Crisis

Amidst the current pandemic of COVID-19, Violence Against Women (VAW) Shelters in Ontario are also responding to the existing Gender-Based Violence Pandemic. We know survivors of gender-based violence are most at-risk of violence in their own homes. We are facing a complicated and unprecedented situation, when “self-isolating at home” is both the primary advice to respond to our current public health crisis, yet the most common location of harassment, violence and lethality for women and children experiencing or at risk of gender-based violence.
